About Me

Hi There. I'm Dr Lucy Coyne a Clinical Psychologist and Director of Discovery Psychology Services. I have been working as a psychologist for over 23 years. I completed my training at Griffith University and completed my PhD in Clinical Psychology (In the field of eating disorders). My research examined how societal influences, such as television and fashion magazines, influence the development of body dissatisfaction and disordered eating behaviours in young women and girls. For many years I have had a passion for helping people develop healthier eating habits as well as increased body acceptance. I am a Medicare provider (Clinical Psychology), a board certified supervisor and a Full Member of the Australian Psychological Society and the College of Clinical Psychologists.

I have worked in private practice in North Lakes for 9 years. Prior to this I worked for Queensland Health in services that provided assistance to adults, adolescents and children experiencing severe and complex mental health problems. I am available to work with people experiencing a range of life difficulties and also more complex mental health conditions. I have worked closely with the Australian Institute for Suicide Prevention (AISRAP). I believe in maintaining a strong connection with up-to-date research and do this by participating actively in the professional psychology community. I recently completed a 3 year core-training course in Intensive Short Term Psycho-dynamic Therapy.

I have a keen interest in nutrition as well as health psychology and integrative medicine approaches to wellness. In more recent years I have also become interested in mindfulness meditation and its benefits to mental health and application to eating disorders and the treatment of anxiety, depression and chronic pain. I also have developed a particular interest in the impact that nutrition and food on mental and physical health.

Fees

My fee is $210 per session. Sessions are scheduled for one hour and consist of a 50 minute appointment and 10 minutes I set aside to make notes. Please note that the APS recommended fee is $260 an hour. This expense is out of reach for many people who require assistance and my rates reflect this. Please note that this is not a bulk billing practice.

Clients who attend with a mental health care plan will receive a medicare rebate of $136.35. Clients may be eligible to receive a rebate through their private health fund.

Cancellation policy

When an appointment is booked, I reserve the whole hour especially for the client. Therefore failure to provide 24 hours notice to cancel or re-book an appointment will result in a $50 cancellation fee. This fee may be waived in the case of exceptional circumstances.
