Business set to match previous performance GREENOCK firm British Polythene Industries Plc is on track to match last year's financial performance.

In a statement, chairman Cameron McLatchie said that focusing the business on agriculture and the retail food chain has put BPI in a good financial position.

He said: "Business is far from easy, but we have taken a number of difficult decisions over the last few years, and this puts us in a good position to withstand current economic conditions. "With two-thirds of our business focused on agriculture and the retail food chain, we are well placed to continue delivering sound results. We continue to expect our performance for the year to be in line with 2011."

Survey of infected trees A NATIONAL survey of trees infected by a deadly virus which was found in woodland Kilmacolm has now been completed.

The 'rapid action' study looked for signs of the killer Chalara fungus after an outbreak was discovered in ash trees at Knockmountain in the village.

Forestry Commission Scotland subsequently sent out staff to study ash trees right across the country.

They found the disease in five areas including Castle Douglas in the south of Scotland, Carrbridge in the Highlands, Blairgowrie in Perthshire, Montrose in Angus and Eyemouth in the Borders. There is no risk to human or animal health from the disease and no need to restrict public access to woodlands, say experts.

But members of the public are being asked to ensure that they do not inadvertently carry ash leaves from one woodland area to another.
