    Default Warhammer UK Masters Series

This proposal has been posted on the Warhammer and Warhammer 40K sections on some forums and some blogs; all feedback will be collated and a response posted on all original posts, as of yet there is no central site for this idea.

While I appreciate these forums have an international audience, my idea is only applicable to those in the U.K. (as you might have guessed from the threat title) – please read on to find out why this is the case.

This is an idea that I’ve had for something which I have been thinking about for the last year, and finally want to get some opinions on and see if I can take it any further.

I’ve attended several tournaments for both Warhammer Fantasy and 40K over the past few years and while I enjoy competing in one, there seems a lack of a national wide competition. While I appreciate there is the UK rankings site and an independent GT there is no prolonged series of tournaments (think ‘Ard Boyz). What I would like to create would be a series of tournaments throughout the year leading to a single ‘finals’ event, with large prizes for the winners.

The series would work as follows:
    - Throughout the year there would be a series of tournaments in a series of venues all around the country (to allow easy access to an event for most of the Warhammer playing population).
    - Depending on venue capacity we would either have both systems on the same day, or on consecutive weekends.
    - Each tournament would follow the same format and have the same prizes/rewards
    - Depending on where you place will depend on how many points you get (all top 10 finishes gaining at least 1 point)
    - Access to the final requires ‘x’ amount of points
    - Limit on how many qualifying tournaments you can attend?
    - All players who qualify will be invited to the final (or finals depending on numbers of qualifies)
    - The finals will use a swiss system to determine the overall winner
    - There will be large prizes for all those who make the final top 5, and at least something for everyone who makes it to the grand final
    - The point of this event is to have a series of well run tournaments around the county where you can attend as many as you want to reach the finals, or just attend the odd few throughout the year just to participate in an event which you know will be successful run and fun to play in!
    - Ticket costs will be on par or below the standard cost (usually around £35 these days) as since all these events will be run by the same ‘team’ we can subsidise to a certain extent and not worry about making a slight loss on a particular event.
    - We will also offer of features to our events (how about having your army professional photographed and have prints sent to you? Or what about promotion of any sites you run? Whatever you want us to do let us know!)

The exact details of how this would work out aren’t yet fully decided; this is why I need yours input. I’ve put together a survey which I would like you to complete (10 very simply questions) and ask for your input (reply to this post) on the following issues:
    - How many events would you like to see throughout the country?
    - How much would you be willing to pay for a ticket?
    - Any other systems you want to be added?

Stay tuned for more information and details to be added to this post!

Due to concerns on another forum I have added more detail to my proposal, please see below...

Okay, you all quite clearly want more information, so rather than answering all your points individually I'll try to give a bit more detail here...

While I appreciate that there are a lot of tournaments already in the scene, I plan to bring something which may not be knew, but will be of a new standard...

Have you ever been to an event where:
    - Everything was run to a high standard?
    - No matter where you placed it mattered?
    - There was a professional photographer there to take pics of your army free of charge?
    - Winning the grand final would result in a prize worth over £500 (setting the budget for the winning army at £550 + £150 in 'conversion budget')
    - The event has several large company partners so you can get exclusive offers for attend a masters series event?

If you can say yes, can you say yes to attending at least 7 of these events a year? I know I can't so that is why I feel this is a new event.

The format will be slightly different, the problem with rankings HQ is that it works from taking the results of any tournament, so if you place high in several low competitive events, it can lead to a less competitive overall result. The way this event works is it all ends in a single event, so if you qualify 40th, you have the same chance as winning as the person who qualified 1st. I won't go into the exact details of how the system will work, that comes tomorrow

Have I run an event before? well no...
    BUT...
I have attended close to 20 tournaments and have run events (just nothing wargaming related). The team behind me have never run a 'wargaming' event before. For example (mostly made up from friends and family) I have a professional photographer, business manager, IT specialist, graphic designer... I think you can see where this is going, we can and have run large events before, just nothing warhammer related, but in reality, its not that different from anything we've done before.

I hope this addresses some of your concerns, if not, feel free to grill me more!
