Phil joined the clinic in 2002 and became a partner in 2003. Phil's
Previous veterinary employment includes teaching at veterinary
universities in South Africa and Melbourne, Gribbles veterinary
laboratory Melbourne, Johannesburg Zoo, Army treating guard dogs and
Horses, and his own small animal Hospital.

Natasha Barr
Avian Veterinary nurse Natasha started work at the bird clinic in 2009.
She has a passion for birds, animals and wildlife and completed a BSc in
Conservation Biology from Deakin University in 2008. She is currently doing
Veterinary Nursing Certificate IV at Box Hill TAFE. Her little budgie is named Grug and she enjoys bike riding, reading and having fun with friends

Sarah
Crewther
Bird Vet nurse Sarah started life as a farm girl from Horsham but moved
to
Melbourne
in 1996. She has been with the clinic since 2008. She is currently
completing Veterinary Nursing Certificate IV at Box hill TAFE. She has two dogs (a Kelpie named Bingo and a
cross Jack Russel named Astrix) and a turtle but like all the staff at our
clinic she loves working with birds, cats, dogs and other pets. When she
is not at work, Sarah likes playing poker with friends, swimming, karate
and horse riding. |

Natalie
Nat is an experienced Avian nurse and is our much loved practice manager at bird vet
Melbourne who is currently on maternity leave. She is
friendly helpful and usually smiling. Her family hails from
Holland
and she has the blond hair to prove it. She has always been passionate
about animals, growing up with pet cats and dogs, working with horses as a
teenager and bringing home the occasional strays. Her pride and joy is her
hand-raised cockatiel 'Ozzy' who brings hours of amusement with his funny
quirks.

Kelly
Irvine
Kelly has always loved birds, dogs, cats, cars and
cricket. She’s always right up on who’s winning at sport. Her pets
include Holly, a cockatiel;
Chelsea

Labrador
and Ben and Madeline, both Peach-faced Lovebirds. She has worked at our
Melbourne bird clinic since 2007 and is currently studying Veterinary Nursing Certificate
IV which she expects to complete next year. |

Dr Anne Fowler
Anne worked with Bird Vet
Melbourne from 2005-7 then headed to NSW where she worked at Sydney
Veterinary University and then became head veterinarian at the RCPCA in New
Castle. She has recently returned to Victoria and is now working part-time
Veterinarian at the Healesville Sanctuary and part-time at Bird Vet
Melbourne. She is very competent
as an avian vet, a bundle of energy and a delight to work with. She is passionate
about avian medicine, other unusual and exotic pets and especially wildlife. We're delighted to have her back.

Bird Specialist Dr Pat Macwhirter
Dr Pat started the clinic, and set up the bird hospital as a
bird specialist training centre. Pat took long service leave in late
2016. She no longer works at Bird Vet Melbourne.
Dr Rupert Baker is an experienced bird vet went on to work in practices in the UK then
came back to Melbourne and is now Head Veterinarian at Healesville Sanctuary
Dr Nimal Fernandez moved to Hong Kong and has been working with
birds and marine mammals at Sea World
Some former nurses who started at our clinic have also gone on to pursue interesting careers: Ellen is currently doing
Finals Veterinary Science at Sydney University,
Avian vet Nikki now runs a bird boarding facility -
Birdboarding in Coberg. , Erin works with primates at Melbourne Zoo, Fiona and Gerry have been nurses at Healesville Sanctuary, Sam is practice manager at the Animal Emergency Centre and Belinda became a paramedic.
