About Us

Our History

The APCRC – Q was established in 2007 by Professor Colleen Nelson, and is modelled on the successful Vancouver Prostate Centre at Vancouver General Hospital in Canada, of which Prof Nelson is a co-founder. In early 2009, we were awarded a $7.5 million Commonwealth grant from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing. Later that year, we launched the Multidisciplinary Team Clinic (MDT) for Advanced Prostate Cancer.

Currently, we are based at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, with affiliate researchers at Queensland University of Technology, University of Queensland, Griffith University, and other institutes around Australia and Canada. We focus exclusively on prostate cancer, and are a hub for prostate cancer research in Brisbane. We are assembled into a multidisciplinary framework that integrates research activities from discovery through to clinical trials.

The APCRC – Q  links to multiple Institutes with advanced technologies in Queensland, in order to encourage and foster applications of their respective expertise to prostate cancer. We collaborate with major prostate cancer research groups and relevant clinical societies, both in Australia and overseas. We also work closely with the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre at Victoria's Epworth Hospital (APCRC @ Epworth).
